Mithun Chakraborty's father dies in Mumbai, actor trapped in Bengaluru due to lockdown

Mithun Chakraborty's younger son and actor Namashi Chakraborty confirmed the death of his grandfather Bansata Kumar Chakraborty.


Renowned actor Mithun Chakraborty's father Basantkumar Chakraborty died in Mumbai on Tuesday evening due to kidney failure. He was 95 and had been ill for a long time. Meanwhile, ABP News has reported that Mithun Chakraborty himself is stranded in Bengaluru due to the lockdown and is trying to attend his father's funeral.

Mithun Chakraborty's younger son and actor Namashi Chakraborty confirmed his grandfather Bansata Kumar Chakraborty's demise to ABP News, but refused to divulge further details, saying he did not want to say anything further in the grief.

It is believed that Basant Kumar, the father of a daughter and three sons, was not at all happy with his son Mithun's decision to become an actor, while his family had full support of Mithun. It is said that when father Basant Kumar came to know that Mithun had an inclination towards Naxalism, he got nervous and sent Mithun to Mumbai.

Mithun then enrolled in Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. After training in acting, Mithun entered the world of films with the film 'Mrigaya' directed by Mrinal Sen, won the Best Actor Award for the first film and made his unique career in an acting career spanning over four decades.

It is also reported that Mithun's elder son Mimoh Chakraborty is currently in Mumbai and is waiting to come to Mumbai to attend his father's grandfather's funeral. It is being told that Mithun Da went to Bengaluru in connection with the shooting of a film and got stuck there due to the lockout.
